Our Facilities

Based at Duchy College's Rosewarne site, the Organic Studies Centre has been involved in organic research and training since 1999. Initially this work was focussed on an organic demonstration farm that evolved into the successful Cornwall-wide Objective 1 programme of trials and demonstration. The feature of that work was the wide array of on-farm activities being conducted across the south west. At the same time, the Centre developed a reputation for knowledge transfer which, along with the experience of participatory research, that has led to its involvement in a number of national research projects.

The OSC offices at Duchy College, Rosewarne houses a wide range of literature on all aspects of organic production, including reports and papers produced by the Centre from 2001 to the present. Within the 47ha farm site at Rosewarne is a small area of approximately 4 acres dedicated to smaller scale organic horticultural production growing vegetables and fertility building crops. The Rosewarne site also has a host of protected cropping structures, including polytunnels and state-of-the-art greenhouses. On site laboratory facilities are used to support detailed field studies. Horticulture, animal care and conservation departments at the college complement the organic programme.

The Duchy College managed Volunteer Training Scheme project (VTS) can provide funding to support training for organic groups and for one off events. Contact 0845 458 7458 for details.
